VFW 6418 Recruitment & Information Booth was present at the Fall Y'all Festival & Chili Cook-Off. We were located in front of Shuckers Restaurant. Space #51. Location: Olde Main Plaza, St. Albans, West Virginia. Date & Time: Sat, October 4th, 2025, 8:00 amm - 6:00 pm Additional Details: 8:00 am: Vendors & chili cookers set up & prepare to serve by noon. 11:00 am: Main St. closes to any & all vehicular traffic. 12:00 pm: Event opens & public sampling begins. Sampling tickets are $1 each, or 12 tickets for $10. 6:00 pm: Winners announced after the final band performs.

Public Law, Title 10, United States Code, Section 1491, provides that all veterans who served their country in military service under honorable conditions are entitled to military funeral honors, which are defined as "the ceremonial paying of respect and the final demonstration of the country’s gratitude to those who, in times of war and peace, have faithfully defended our nation." The Department of Defense and the Veterans Administration have authorized veterans organizations such as the VFW to conduct military funeral honors at a veteran’s funeral service.

"Wagging Tails Chili Cookoff Smoke On The Water Edition"​​​​​ Saturday, November 8​​​th, 2025, Nitro, West Virginia, at Living Memorial Park. VFW POST 6418 RECRUITMENT AND INFORMATION BOOTH WILL BE THERE. The Wagging Tails chili cook-off is an annual charity event held in Nitro, West Virginia, that features chili tastings, craft beer, and music. It is paired with the Nitro Ales festival and raises funds for HospiceCare and local animal rescue groups. The cook-off is officially sanctioned by the International Chili Society (ICS)

CAMP LEJEUNE TOXIC WATER CLAIMS - GOV. SHUTDOWN

Since October 1, 2025, the US Federal Government has been shutdown due to a lapse in federal funding. This means most federal employees have been furloughed and federal departments/agencies such as the Department of Justice (DOJ) and United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps (Navy JAG) are not currently processing the 400,000 Camp Lejeune claims that have been filed. Recent Actions in the Litigation In October 2025, lawyers for the DOJ filed a request to pause all deadlines in the litigation due to the ongoing government shutdown. However, the Court denied this request and ordered the DOJ to continue working on the litigation finding that pausing the litigation was not justified due to the aging and ailing population of claimants in the Camp Lejeune litigation. Additionally, the US Federal Courts announced that beginning October 20, 2025, all courts have run out of funding and are only able to maintain limited operations necessary to carry out the Courts’ constitutional functions. The Government’s shutdown pause in processing is already in addition to the delayed processing due to staffing shortages, federal workforce cuts, and technical problems with its claims portal. All of these issues have caused major delays in the processing of claims. Since August 2025, the Special Masters appointed by the Court have continued to work on: · Questionnaire: A survey went out to 2,500 randomly chosen claimants. This survey will help decide how different types of claims should be valued. · Bellwether Mediations: Mediations with the Department of Justice on 25 'Track 1' cases selected for trial, are still ongoing. · Settlement Matrix: The information from both the survey and mediations will be used to create a consistent and fair system for valuing claims. Please note: While these efforts reflect meaningful progress, there is currently no imminent or guaranteed settlement. We also want to reach a fair settlement as soon as possible. However, getting there will take time as the Government continues to dispute key issues that need to be resolved. The parties are working together toward a resolution, but the process remains ongoing and complex.

Christmas will soon be upon us, and VFW Post 6418 and VFW Riders Post 6418 wish to make sure every kid has a Toy. Our annual "Kids-In-Need" Christmas Toy Donation/Collection Program is now underway, with Donation Boxes being positioned throughout St. Albans. Currently, VFW Post 6418 has a Donation/Collection Box at IGA on Kanawha Terrace.
